This week former Senator Mitchell’s report on anabolic steroid use in major league baseball was released with all its dirty laundry. 30 names included in the report were some of the most highly respected players in the sport. The denials are running rampant now with mostly the Bart Simpson defense, “I didn’t do it, you didn’t see me do it, you can’t prove a thing.” The question is why did these guys think they had to cheat the sport instead of continuing to improve on their basic skills of the game while doing the normal training exercises to build the strength they needed to compete? Well, the only anwer is they were looking for the shortcut.
One of the latest trends in real estate is companies out there who have some new gimmick to generate leads, manage them, follow up etc…. all promoting massive results for less effort. We get calls daily promoting the product or service. The catch phrase usually goes something like, “it’s like XYZ program on steroids!” Well let’s face it, all the programs on steroids available can’t replace the basics of a real estate business. The great former coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi, said (paraphrased) “there’s one thing that separates the champion from the great player and that’s mastery of fundamentals.” Real estate is no different. That’s why My AZ Home Team continues to work the fundamentals of real estate, i.e. face to face contact with our clients and prospective clients, relationships and helping our clients achieve their goal.
So the programs out there that are supposed be like XYZ program on steroids may not be the right thing. If I was in the habit of using this phrase to promote my business these days, I believe I’d rethink it. And maybe it’s time for major league baseball to get back to mastering the fundamentals….batting practice, pitching, catching, running….and using the legal tools available to them to improve.
